FELIPE ORTIZ

Felipe is one of the world's best in improv and physicality. He is passionate about the body in movement and its possibilities. He explores it through acrobatics, improvisation, clowning, physical theatre, and object manipulation to create new forms of expression in the performing arts. For Felipe, the body is the starting point of improv; it's the medium through which stories take shape and emotions resonate. His method is to 'feel and go', following the physical impulse, letting the heart and gut lead the way.

Felipe is a renowned performer, director, and teacher in Colombia and the world. He has been the artistic director of La Gata Cirko (new circus) for 19 years. He is interested in exchanging, interacting, playing, and sharing experiences with different artists around the world. He has directed a variety of shows including high-profile performances such as the opening ceremony of the World Games in Cali and the closing ceremony of the FIFA World Cup Sub-20 in Bogota.

Currently, he is working as a clown, acrobatics, and improv teacher at Javeriana University in Bogota. As a performer, Felipe has been touring around the world since 2003, with different festivals, companies, and collaborations with artists. Together with his colleague Daniel Orrantia and DJ Mama Cutsworth he created “Speechless”, an impro performance without words where body language and music take center stage, weaving together stories that transcend language and cultural barriers. This unique form of improvised theatre has resonated with people around the globe, impressing audiences in the Americas, Europe and the Middle East.
